Oh what a night! I am writing this blog but I actually don't know where to start. I am really impressed by this edition of Silks & Pole Shownight. Compared to last spring's edition the number of acts have doubled (14) as well as the number of people in the audience (about 75)! Zaal B was cosier than ever ;)
Ok wait, let me give you some background info first. As most of you know, Anne and I teach aerial silks at the University Sports Center in Leiden. As we have experienced ourselves, you get far more motivated when you are training for a certain performance. With that in mind, we thought it would be fun to organize an event where our students could perform and invite their friends and family and show them what they have learned during class! I mean, aerial silks is a show sport after all. Since the pole fitnessers were also interested in organizing a showcase, we decided to join our forces and tadaa... Silks & Pole Shownight was born!
So this time, it was not just the number of acts that impressed me, it's also the level that had gone way up since last time! And what I loved the most about this edition was the diversity in shows. We had solo pole acts, a duo pole act, a group pole act, a spinning pole act, solo silks acts, duo silks acts, trio silks acts, and the two surprise acts: rope & duo hoop :)
Melissa, Anne and I opened the night with our routine to the Frozen mix, the same routine we did at Circaso. Catchy and fits perfectly in theme! We had one guest act by Ignacio, or Nacho. We met at the free trainings at Circaso in Den Haag and as I saw him in the rope, I thought it might be an idea to insert a no-pole/silks act somewhere in the line up to make it even more interesting for the spectators. Nacho performed a beautiful rope act, which was emotional and exciting at the same time. Loved it!
Some of the performers came to me just before the start of the show to check on their music and tell me how nervous they were, first time performing etc. Guess what, Anne and I had a first too! The hoop :) My interest in the hoop started when I saw Nick performing at the Miss India Pageant show. The hoop we have is way to big for me alone, but perfect for a duo show. So we decided to work on it (actually play with it and see what works) and do a try-out at the Shownight. Click here to check out our performance.
I could try to describe all 14 acts and tell you how beautiful they were and try not to bore you with the repetition of the words beautiful, great, wonderful, impressive and awesome, but I think photos will give you a better feel of the night :) Oh and we were in the University Newspaper! Check it out!
Artist, thank you for your awesome performances, I really enjoyed watching you guys! And audience, thank you so much for coming! No show night without an enthusiastic crowd!
We welcome you all next spring for our fourth edition of the Silks & Pole Shownight!
